Our guest speaker, Ioan Davies, Director of Faculty for Academic Studies at Activate Learning, will be joining us again, in a follow-up session to his hugely popular network held on 23 January about project-based learning, and the project-based work they undertake within their faculty, linking their T Level students to businesses and industry.

The previous session explored how employer-led projects can be used to deliver high-quality T Level industry placements that are compliant, sustainable, and valuable to employers and learners.
This network is designed for both those that attended Ioan’s previous network, and for those that didn’t have the chance to attend.

The previous presentation and resources will be made available to you prior to the network, where Ioan will then do a recap of the projects he covered previously, and in response to the overwhelming interest in the last presentation, there will be an extended opportunity for a question and answer session with Ioan, and delve into his expertise and experience in this area.

In this network we will be discussing the all-important themes of Quality and Ofsted in T Level provision. We are delighted to host this network in collaboration with Steven Tucker, former His Majesty's Inspector (HMI) for Ofsted. Since 2022, has been a consultant to the FE and HE sectors, helping educators do their very best for their learners.

Steven enjoyed 9 years as an HMI inspecting further education colleges, dance & drama colleges, training providers and universities, having been a senior leader in an FE college. He has supported providers and colleges to make improvements and to deal with weaknesses in curriculum, teaching, leadership and management.

Route Exchange Network -  Education and Early Years - Reflections and Insights with NCFE and a Chief Moderator - 25 March 2026

We invited all T Level practitioners to join us for this celebratory Learning From Network where we wrapped up term 2's Education and Early Years events. We were joined by Alana Bennet and Gemma McGregor, Provider Development Officers at NCFE, and insights from a Chief Moderator which allowed all those who attended the face-to-face events from Durham to Plymouth to share best practice with colleagues across the country, as well as allow those who could not make it in-person to join in the conversation too.

This network was designed to support colleges and schools in developing effective strategies around assessment in T Levels, and good practice on how to approach them. This network was a discussion forum, using breakout rooms, for practitioners to share their experiences in the area of assessment.
 In this network we discussed:

  • sharing best practice - exchange successful approaches to assessment, and problem solve with peers
  • collaborating for impact - build connections between colleges and schools, and share experiences
  • discuss how to approach administrative complexities and workload for assessment planning.

This network was designed to support schools and colleges in developing effective strategies for marketing and student recruitment, ensuring strong engagement with prospective learners and their families. We were joined by Will Knox, Head of Sixth Form at Ada Lovelace Church of England High School, where he has led the development and growth of a Sixth Form that is exclusively focused on T Level pathways. 

In its first year, the Sixth Form received around 40 applications and enrolled just 20 students. As a result of targeted marketing, and strengthened recruitment processes, interest has grown dramatically. For the current admissions cycle, the Sixth Form received 320 applications for 60 places, despite maintaining high entry requirements of six Grade 5s including a Grade 6 in the chosen subject area.

In this network we will discuss:

  • sharing best practice: exchange successful approaches to marketing campaigns, digital engagement, and outreach activities
  • enhancing recruitment strategies: explore innovative methods to attract and retain students, including open events, social media, and community partnerships
  • practical ideas for improving visibility and engagement with target audiences
  • top tips from our guest speaker, Will Knox, Head of 6th Form at Ada Lovelace Academy.

Whether you’re just beginning to establish your T Level offer or looking to grow your existing provision, this session will provide actionable insights to boost your recruitment and strengthen your T Level offer.

Route Exchange Network -  Agriculture, Environmental and Animal Care - 4 March 2026

This event brought together educators, industry partners, and assessment specialists to exchange best practices, tackle common challenges, and explore innovative strategies for successful implementation. We were joined by Kat Luck, Digital and Innovation Manager, and Merlin Evans, Curriculum Administrator for Animal Studies and Game & Wildlife, from Sparsholt College.

Participants engaged in discussions such as retention and placements, received expert advice from City and Guilds, and built valuable connections with peers who are navigating the same journey.

Route Exchange Network -  Health, Digital & Business and Administration - NHS Focused - 26 February 2026

Our NHS Focused network signposted key initiatives that are being offered and launched to support student placements across T Level provision.

This included the expansion of NHS IPCO’s, and work placement apps and a discussion around support that providers may not be fully aware of.

This network was across a range of routes (Health, Digital & Management & Admin) all key areas that are supported by the NHS and addressed potential barriers to placement for learners.

Curriculum Impact Network - Embedding Careers into the Curriculum with The Careers Enterprise Company - 11 Feb 2026

On 11 February, we were joined by Alison Sadler, Further Education and Skills Lead for the Education Development Team at The Careers and Enterprise Company. We discussed strategies of how to successfully embed careers guidance into classroom teaching.

With 25 years’ experience in the Further Education sector, including management of apprenticeships, adult education, study programmes and HE provision. Alison is responsible for management of national FE & ITP communities of improvement, resource development, and supporting the Post 16 sector to achieve delivery of high-quality careers education.

This session will covered:

  • what is high quality careers education?
  • distributed leadership of careers - why it is everyone's business
  • embedding careers in the curriculum - examples and approaches
  • support and resources available for teaching staff
  • how to get involved!

Curriculum Impact Network - Neurodivergent learners and SEND - 30 Jan 2026

On Friday 30 January 2026, we were joined by Roz Hicks, Head of Media Business & Digital Industries at City College Norwich and Digital Policy and Project Manager at AoC, where she focussed on the ever-important topic of how best to support neurodivergent learners and the SEND system.

Curriculum Impact Network - ESP and project based learning - 23 Jan 2026

On Friday 23 January, we explored best practices for delivering Employer Set Projects (ESP) within T Levels through project-based learning (PBL) approaches. We were joined by guest speaker Ioan Davies, Director Faculty at Activate Learning who talked about project-based work they undertake within their faculty, linking their T Level students to businesses and industry.

Learning objectives for this network were:

  • enhance understanding: deepen knowledge of ESP requirements and how they align with T Level assessment objectives.
  • share strategies: exchange effective methods for integrating PBL into ESP delivery, ensuring authentic, industry-relevant experiences for learners
  • opportunities to network with peers for collaborative project development.

At our Schools Spotlight Network, we discussed Employer Engagement with Oliver Rosen. 

Oliver Rosen, Head of Media, Computing and Social Sciences Faculty at Acland Burghley School. He has over 20 years of experience in the planning, implementation and delivery of Media Education.  Oliver has worked with a number of exam boards including OCR whereby he co-authored the Dynamic Learning Resource for the new Media A-Level specification.  The Institute of Education has recognised excellence in Oliver’s work twice through the prestigious London Education Partnership Awards, supporting journeys category, awarded for empowering young people and bridging the gap between the Creative Industries and Education.

On 3 December 2025, we held our Curriculum Impact Network on Embedding English, maths and digital

We hosted a Curriculum Impact Network on 19 November on Reflections on the 24-25 Academic year. In this session, we explored national achievement trends, successes and lessons learnt. Participants entered breakout rooms and discussed curriculum, assessment and industry placements where they exchanged strategies and brought these into the main room to identify actionable ideas and best practice to implement immediately. We also reviewed the Post-16 White Paper and the Curriculum & Assessment Review. 

In October, we hosted a Route Exchange Network for the Health T Level and we were joined by NCFE. Access the Padlet that was shared during the Network which discussed the mark scheme for assessment and that participants shared other resources to help the community.
