About our English offer
ETF’s English CPD offer helps teachers, trainers and leaders improve learner progress through evidence-informed, practical development. As the professional body for further education and skills, ETF works in partnership with the sector to create training that reflects real challenges and drives genuine improvement – building confidence and lasting impact in every classroom.
Building success with the fully funded 16–19 English GCSE Resit CPD Programme
Build your learners’ confidence, discover adaptive teaching strategies and explore ways to boost engagement with the 16-19 English GCSE Resit CPD programme, a fully funded package of live online and on-demand CPD courses.
This programme aims to empower English teachers with trainers built on evidence, delivered by experts and practitioners from the sector, and focused on improving learner experience and outcomes.
Though dynamic live courses, interactive on-demand courses, a collaborative online community and regional teachmeets, you will gain practical tools to deliver engaging, inclusive lessons that meet the needs of all learners.
Aims of the programme
- Increasing pass rates and grade improvements for 16–19-year-olds studying GCSE English resits in FE settings.
- Improving teaching through high-quality, fully funded, evidence-based CPD for English teachers.
- Supporting disadvantaged and SEND learners and narrowing attainment gaps post-16.
- Strengthening the FE workforce by supporting recruitment, retention, and professional development of teachers and leaders.
Structure of the programme
This programme consists of 12 courses delivered through self-guided on-demand and live online sessions.
There are six courses to join live online and six courses to explore on-demand.
With our on-demand offer, you can access these at any time that suits you.
Our next cohort of live online courses start in May.
Teachmeets
Teachmeets are an opportunity for a few hours of training, networking and sharing of best practice as we bring together teachers working to provide the best for their GCSE English resit learners.
We will be hosting a few Teachmeets around the country, keep your eyes peeled on emails and social to find out when we will be hosting the next one.
Eligibility
This programme is currently prioritised for colleges that have not previously received DfE-funded CPD through this grant, so organisations with prior support are not eligible at this stage.

Once we have confirmed your eligibility, we will send you a Letter of Intent that must be signed by a Vice Principal or equivalent from your organization.
