  • Education for Sustainable Development

This course explores education for sustainable development (ESD) across four modules, guiding you from core concepts through to practical application in teaching and learning.

Programme aim

This course explores education for sustainable development (ESD) across four modules, guiding you from core concepts through to practical application in teaching and learning. You’ll begin by examining the purpose and relevance of ESD within the further education (FE) and skills sector, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the rise of green jobs and the skills learners need for a sustainable future.

Building on this foundation, the course then focuses on applying ESD within your own context. You’ll relate the SDGs to your curriculum area and explore a range of pedagogical approaches such as inquiry-based learning and practical strategies for embedding ESD into teaching. By the end of the course, you’ll be equipped to integrate sustainability into your practice and support learners to progress into sustainable careers.

Who is this for?

This course is designed for teachers and tutors working in FE and Skills settings and involved in the planning and delivery of teaching and learning and are wanting to explore how this can be embedded or promoted within their roles within the FE and Skills sector.
