The course aims to support you in gaining the confidence and knowledge to take your next steps in your journey to becoming an FE teacher or trainer.
Programme aim
The course introduces some of the key theories of teaching and learning and explores how valuable your previous career experience will be in further education (FE). It also includes guidance on researching and preparing for job applications, interviews and a ‘microteach’.
Who is this for?
This course is suitable for anyone preparing for a career in teaching or training, particularly in the further education (FE) and skills sector.
If you are a new or prospective graduate, you will complete the course with a clear understanding of what a career in FE can offer you, building on the knowledge and experience gained through your degree course.
If you are considering a career change into FE teaching or training, perhaps from industry or the armed forces, the course will explore the benefits that your knowledge, skills and experience will bring to learners.
Programme structure
This is an eLearning course which takes on average six hours to complete.
What will you gain?
Identify the different learners, settings, roles and teaching qualifications in FE and the changes and challenges that have shaped the sector.
Consider how to design and deliver excellent teaching and learning with reference to the key theories, concepts and underlying principles of FE.
Investigate what FE learners need to know and do, and the teaching approaches and touchpoints that will support them to get there.
Develop your understanding of employers’ role in FE, with reference to careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) and education for sustainable development (ESD).
