THE WORKFORCE BEHIND THE WORKFORCE
Further education (FE) and skills plays a vital role in developing the workforce capability that underpins the UK's economy. Through technical education, apprenticeships and lifelong learning, the sector equips millions of people with the skills needed to enter employment, progress in their careers and adapt to a changing labour market.
Drawing on nationally representative polling of 2,000 UK adults, this report explores public perceptions of FE and skills and the professionals who deliver it. The findings reveal strong public support for technical education and retraining, alongside recognition of the importance of skills development for economic growth and prosperity.
The report highlights a significant opportunity to raise awareness of the highly skilled teachers, trainers and leaders working across FE and skills. These dual professionals combine industry expertise with teaching excellence to develop the workforce that powers businesses, public services and local economies. As the UK's professional body for FE and skills, ETF argues that greater recognition, investment and support for this workforce will be essential to meeting future skills needs and driving sustainable economic growth.
