The final report from the Curriculum and Assessment Review was published on 5 November, outlining the conclusions and recommendations from Professor Becky Francis CBE’s independent review of the curriculum, assessment and qualifications system in England.
In response, Dr Katerina Kolyva, CEO at the Education Training Foundation (ETF), said: ‘We welcome the publication of the Curriculum and Assessment Review Final Report and its clear recognition of the importance of transforming 16-19 pathways, strengthening maths and English post-16, and responding to rapid social and technological change.’
‘The Review’s bold ambition is for a better system for all young people. But for it to succeed, the further education and skills sector must be at the heart of reform. As the professional body for the further education and skills workforce, ETF is committed to working with government, sector leaders, practitioners, employers and learners to ensure that this reform agenda is fully realised so that learners everywhere benefit.’
How ETF will engage with the Review’s agenda
-
We will ensure FE and skills practitioners and leaders are fully engaged in the design and implementation of the proposed V Levels, ensuring that applied pathways are robust, employer-connected and academically credible.
-
We will work with providers to deliver high-quality professional learning in maths, English, digital, sustainability and emerging disciplines – aligning teaching expertise with the reform’s skills ambitions.
-
We will support local leadership, by helping providers align curriculum reform with place-based economic needs, strengthening devolution and partnership between FE and skills institutions, employers and communities.
-
We will continue to build membership infrastructure and a professional community that elevates the status of FE and skills teaching and training and drives workforce retention and development.
