The University of Greenwich and the Education Training Foundation (ETF) have formed a strategic partnership with an aim to tackle some of the challenges being faced by England’s further education sector.

England’s longest standing further education sector professional body, the ETF is combining with the rich history of the University of Greenwich, which has been providing initial teacher education for over 100 years. The intention, to utilise the knowledge, skills and innovation of both institutions to navigate how to further support education in England.

The agreement was developed and signed by Professor Stephen Corbett, Deputy Dean, Faculty of Education, Health and Human Sciences, University of Greenwich and Dr Vikki Smith, ETF’s Executive Director of Education and Standards.

When asked why this is important, Professor Corbett explained “The further education and skills sector is a key part of our education system in England. While there has been some welcome investment in the sector over recent years there are challenges that still need to be addressed. We, at the University of Greenwich are so pleased to be working with the ETF to see what part we can play to support the sector and those in it.”

In response Dr Vikki Smith said, “This partnership between ETF and the University of Greenwich represents a shared commitment to championing professionalism across the further education and skills sector. By combining our expertise, resources and innovation, we will create new opportunities to ensure educators are equipped with the knowledge, skills and recognition they deserve to succeed in a competitive global landscape. Together, we aim to strengthen the professional status of the sector, enhance the learner experience, and shape the future of further education as a cornerstone of social and economic progress.” This marks an exciting time in further education with two institutions committed to enhancing the future of education for students, educators, and communities they serve.
